Our review of Art Basel 2017
Art Basel 2017 and 2018
Since two of these spectacular art shows have already occurred in 2017, we will expand this review into the upcoming 2018 year so that you can hopefully plan to attend and enjoy one or more of them and not just read about those that are past. If you are fascinated by art in its multitude of forms, these fairs are the perfect answer for you.
Art Basel presents the world’s premier international contemporary and modern art fairs, which are staged annually in Hong Kong, Miami Beach, and in the cultural capital of Basel in Switzerland. They are the world’s largest and most talked about art fairs, and they support the galleries that nurture the careers of outstanding and emerging artists.
The fairs present the newest and most unique developments in the visual arts in their paintings, massive sculptures, large-scale installations and art projects, drawings, prints, photography, digital art, video projections, live performances, and other unusual and creative art forms.
Projects from established and historical artists as well as new ones include solo presentations and amazing thematic exhibits that represent a wide range of cultures and artistic approaches. Exciting new solo projects by emerging artists are eligible to receive the Baloise Art Prize. The Baloise Group acquires works by the award-winning artists and then donates them to European art institutions.
Art Basel also presents a series of conversations regarding the global art scene. These provide dynamic dialogues from prominent members of the international art world who offer their unique perspectives on producing, exhibiting, and collecting art. Leading art publishers from throughout the world exhibit the results of their collaboration with renowned artists, which provides visitors with an opportunity to see rare and significant publications.
